What is Tandoori roti?

Tandoori rotis are made from wheat flour or maida and cooked at higher temperature in bhatti (tandoor). Tandoori roti is one of the most popular bread in India, Pakistan, Middle East and Afghanistan. It is mostly cooked in restaurants as compared to home due to unavailability of tandoor at home. Tandoori rotis made from maida are difficult to tear when warm and tough when cold. Ingredients:

3 cup wheat flour

1 tablespoon oil

salt as per the taste

1 cup of water for kneading

Ghee or oil

How to make tandoori roti kneading dough

1. Seive the wheat flour with 1 teaspoon of salt in a bowl.

2.Add salt as per the taste.

3. Add 1 tablespoon oil.

4. Add 1 cup of water.

5. Mix everything to begin kneading.

6. Knead to a soft and smooth dough.

7. Make small sized ball from the dough.

8. Now flatten a dough ball with rolling board and sprinkle some flour on it.

9. Roll it into round shape.

2. Making tandoori roti at cooker

Making tandoori roti on tawa:

Ingredients (Same like tandoor)

3 cup wheat flour

1 tablespoon oil

salt as per the taste

1 cup of water for kneading

Ghee or oil

Making tandoori roti kneading dough for tawa (Same like  tandoor)

1. Seive the wheat flour with 1 teaspoon of salt in a bowl.

2.Add salt as per the taste.

3. Add 1 tablespoon oil.

4. Add 1 cup of water.

5. Mix everything to begin kneading.

6. Knead to a soft and smooth dough.

7. Make small sized ball from the dough.

8. Now flatten a dough ball with rolling board and sprinkle some flour on it.

9. Roll it into round shape.

Make tandoori roti at tawa

1. Use the iron or steel tawa. (Don’t use non stick tawa, roti will fall in the upcoming steps)

2. Roll the roti and spread water all over the roti.

3. Placed the water side roti on a hot tawa and wait for the large bubbles on it.

4. Cook the roti for about one minute in a low to medium flame.

5. Water should dry up completely so that roti will come out easily from tawa.

6. Hold the upside tawa carefully down on the gas stove flame (flame should be low or medium and roti shouldn’t fall into the flame).

7.  Rotate the tawa for roasting and keep tongs near to the flame.

8. Keep the tawa to the original position on the stove top and cook for some more seconds.

9.  Your tandoori roti is ready now. Remove it with tong from tawa.

10. Spread some butter or ghee on tandoori roti and serve it with curries or dal.

 

Making tandoori roti in cooker:

Ingredients (Same like tandoor and tawa)

1 cup of water for kneading

Ghee or oil

Making tandoori roti kneading dough for cooker (Same like tandoor and tawa)

1. Seive the wheat flour with 1 teaspoon of salt in a bowl.

2.Add salt as per the taste.

3. Add 1 tablespoon oil.

4. Add 1 cup of water.

5. Mix everything to begin kneading.

6. Knead to a soft and smooth dough.

7. Make small sized ball from the dough.

8. Now flatten a dough ball with rolling board and sprinkle some flour on it.

9. Roll it into round shape.

Make tandoori roti in cooker

1. Heat the cooker for 2-3 minutes on high flame.

2. Roll the roti and spread water all over the roti.

3. Stick the water side roti in the wall of cooker and wait for the large bubbles on it.

4. Rotate the cooker and keep the flame high for 1-2 minutes.

5. Cook the roti till golden brown color.

6. Keep the cooker to the original position on the stove top and cook for some more seconds.

7. Your tandoori roti is ready now. Remove it with tong from cooker

8. Spread some butter or ghee on tandoori roti and serve it with curries or dal.
